FAQs

Q: I’ve never had therapy before, how do I know what it will involve and whether I really need it?

Everyone has different reasons for entering therapy and there is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ reason for such. I’ve worked with clients who simply want a space to feel heard and use therapy as a tool to maintain a healthy mindset, as well as people who feel they are struggling to get through day to day. If, for any reason, I feel like I would not have the relevant experience to support you, I will always be happy to signpost you to another therapist who may be better suited to your goals.

Q: Are online sessions as effective as face-to-face sessions?

Having worked within one of the UK’s leading online therapy providers, Mable Therapy, I have years of experience in ensuring that online sessions can be an effective way of providing therapy. With the use of creative techniques alongside verbal communication, I am used to incorporating many different interventions in an online setting ensuring that the effectiveness of these strategies are not compromised by the online experience.

Q: How many sessions will I need?

This will depend entirely on your goals. I have worked with clients short term for 6 sessions and I have worked with clients for over 3 years. But please know that you will not be expected to attend sessions for any longer than you would like to.

Q: Why do you hold an introductory call and an assessment?

As a previous head of a low cost service based in London, where I assessed and matched clients to a suitable therapist, I understand the importance of the counselling relationship for effective therapy. This is why I offer a free introductory call before deciding whether you would like to attend an assessment. We are all human after all, and we may not feel well matched to everyone that we meet.

Q: I’m booking a session for a child. Can I attend the assessment with my child?

I believe it’s important to have a holistic approach when it comes to children’s counselling, ensuring that the young person has the support around them that can help to facilitate change. For this reason, it’s important for me to hear the expectations of the parent/carer at the beginning of the therapy as well as the goals of the young client. Once your child feels ready to attend alone, I would encourage them to do so. I understand the importance that both parent and child feel safe with the relationship, and I will always speak to a parents regarding this at the beginning of the sessions.

Q: Where can I go for crisis support?

In times of crisis, you can contact the Samaritans on 116 123 (24 hrs a day, 7 days a week)

Similarly, for clients aged up to 35yrs, you can contact Hopeline UK on 0800 068 41 41 (24hrs a day, 7 days a week)

You can also visit your local A&E department if you feel in danger.
